Dear friends,
Boston Art Review began in 2017 with a dream for a more engaged, equitable, and connected arts ecosystem. Today, Boston Art Review is the region’s only dedicated publication focused on documenting, amplifying, and fostering artistic and cultural work from Maine to Rhode Island.
Regional art publications play powerful roles in elevating narratives and shaping perceptions about place, politics, and history. With our biannual print publication, digital editorial content, weekly curated arts calendar, and civic partnerships, we provide an essential platform for artists, writers, and cultural spaces to have their work amplified, contextualized, and placed within a broader contemporary art dialogue. Through our mentorship programs, we train the next generation to develop new modes of thoughtful storytelling that elevates the work of artists across disciplines.
And at a time when digital platforms for information sharing are becoming increasingly precarious, we believe in the power of print to serve as an egalitarian tool that captures our cultural community in the present while also creating an archive for the future. But BAR is more than just a publication—it’s a hub for information, a catalyst for emerging voices, and a site for elevating and preserving historically overlooked perspectives.
To maintain momentum, we are building and fortifying systems for financial sustainability and programmatic growth. You can be a part of our next chapter by becoming a member of the BAR Giving Circle.
Thank you for supporting independent arts publishing in Boston. We truly couldn’t do this work without you.
